Weather-specific advertising to your phone

Search Engine giant
Google have announced technology that will enable ‘smart’ advertising, based on
your surroundings. According to reports in today’s news, a patent has been
granted for Google to deliver ads, based on environmental factors surrounding
you at the time. So what does this actually mean? Well, if it’s sunny and warm
outside, the advertising could be around sun cream or sunglasses, or if it
starts raining, you could see adverts for umbrellas.
The move potentially
means that mobile phones would be fitted with sensors to detect surroundings
and things like temperature, humidity and light to generate the personalised
advertising. As part of the patent, Google will be able to tap into online and
offline data. According to the news, Google say the project is in the very
early stages and no firm decisions on which way to develop the patent have been
decided.
