The Chancellor has announced tax breaks for
the video games industry as part of the 2012 budget. The move, which will see a
predicted four thousand jobs protected, is hoped will not only build the games
industry in the UK, but also put it at the forefront of the industry on a
worldwide level. As a result of the news, it’s expected to generate £172
million for the Treasury, according to news reports.
As part of the move as well, Osborne has
updated us on the cities that will benefit from superfast broadband
improvements. Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Leeds, Manchester and Newcastle
will benefit from a £100 million pot of cash to improve speeds and a further
£50 million is being made available to smaller cities for the same reason.
